How long ago did you buy it? Every state has lemon laws and chances are that monkey bastard rigged your disco for a quick sale. You want the RAVE manual. Call john at tidewater rovers. He'll send you ONE FOR FREE. He may even have som more advice for you.

Any local auto store will rent to their code reader. Get them and post them here.

There's a SLIM CHANCE that your dash looking like a christmas tree is an indication that youve got some fucked up wiring and malfunctioning ecu's.

However, start with changing the fluid. you may be dry. 2 plugs underneath. one to drain. one to fill. make sure the pan gasket isn't blown and the source of your leak. . .

Hey guy's,
I finally was able to get the codes read. The scanner showed 4 codes.
The first was P0722 speed sensor circuit, P0340 cam position sensor,P0560 system voltage malfunction, and P1536 controlled vehicle auxillary manufacture speed/idle control. I reset the codes and took it for a drive to see if this would help, The M and S started flashing again but the only code that came up was P0722. Does anyone out there have a good understanding of these codes? Transmission still the same. No codes that say anything about tranny malfunction. I m almost positive it is electrical. I've seen and felt bad trasmissions and this doesnt seem like one. Its like some signal is keeping it from shifting.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Steve

That's because it's in failsafe. I haven't done an electric ZF in a while so I cant remember if it uses both an input and an output speed sensor, but it should have both to monitor ratios. You've really got to get it to a shop that can put it on their scanning equipment to watch the sensors and see if they are reading properly. You could get lucky with a bad connection somewhere, a wire rubbed through, a failed sensor, etc...

I should add this as well...

P0560 system voltage malfunction

This could be important. Check your voltage. I had a car(late model Protege) come in with a similar code and the trans was in failsafe. The thing was running at 18 volts. I disabled the alternator and voltage dropped back down to normal and the trans worked 100% on a brief road test. That's honestly all the info I have on that car though. It was a job from a local garage and they picked the car up to correct the voltage issue themselves.

Thanks for the info.
I called the LR dealer in St louis and they told me it was a 90% chance that it was the turbine sensor? Does anyone know where that is located? It doesnt show it on the rave cd.

Turbine is the input and would be the one closest to the bellhousing. But, don't quote me on this, I think generic P0722 is for the ouput sensor, which would be further back in the case. I really can't help you anymore other than to tell you to get it to:

A.) The dealer

B.) A competent independent mechanic who can give you the proper diagnosis

or

C.) A competent independant transmission mechanic

Dear Land Rover lovers,

Be very carefull if you consider doing bussiness with John Miller. I bought two Airco Woodtrim's from him and after paying him $225 for these including shipment on the 4th of dec 06 I'm still waiting form him to deliver. First he sends two plain plastic trim ones. I had to pay the returnshipment for these parts, so that was another $30. In january 07 he finaly send one of the trim's. Now I'm still waiting for the other one and the promised refund of the returnshipment. Paypal isn't a help because they will only help you when a claim has been filed within 45 days (on day 40 or so he mails: we are in the proces of shipping the items to you but afcourse he didn't). Since then he ignores my emails, hangs up the phone when called, ignores even a started dispute on ebay. His full contact info is:

The quickest check to do is like what so many have said, look at the battery terminals and ground points for the battery. Then crawl under the rig and disconnect all of the plugs going to the transmission and look for corrosion. I have seen it when the rig had a major oil leak; it contaminated the plugs going to the auto. Check your fluid levels, and see if you have burnt oil in the box.

There is no turbine sensor on your transmission. The only speed sensor for the 4HP22 is the Output Shaft Speed. This sensor is located on the valve body. The only torque converter sensor in the box is the Lock-up status. And again, this is located on the valve body. The Lock-up status only reads a completed loop when the lock-up solenoid is engaged.

Look at all your battery grounds, charge your battery, and check all of your plugs going to the transmission are the first steps you should do.

Had to do an edit. Again, the mighty topo demons attacked me.

i had my intake preheater leak on to the wiring harness for the throttle sensor, causing a bad conection. the trans couldn't get the reading so it went to limp home mode. morel of the story is check all your connections.

Hi ,

I have a similar problem before with my D2 . It only occur when the engine not properly warm up . The engine with revved till 4000rpm before the transmission shift out of first . Eventually the M & S lights came on and the dealer retreived the codes . In the end , TRANSIMISSION OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR SHAFT was changed and issue did not return at all .

Hope this help.
