So I am seriously considering getting a crown vic. I just moved to CO for a sales job. They give me a car allowance and pay for gas. Ferrari or Civic I get the same amount in the car allowance and since they pay for gas, i dont care about mileage

I have been driving my D1 and sorting out some issues along the way. BUt here I am in CO, and I cant take it off road since it is a primary vehicle.

So I starting thinking about cars. I thought about getting a base model Subaru impreza or Honda accord
But then I realized I dont want a long term car loan since my wife drives an acura MDX with 215k miles on it, so it will have to be replaced soon

So enter the crown vic. Cheap, easy to work on, cheap parts and durable.

Am I nuts?

Does anyone know the best way to get a an ex detective one? They are supposed to be nicer

As long as it comes with a cop motor, top tires, cop suspension, cop shocks, and is a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas, then go for it. Just don't tell your brother until he's out of prison. Oh, and make sure the cigarette lighter works.

We have (had) crown vics for everything from commander's cars to patrol cars. All go to auction. I knew two guys who were buying from auction and reselling, I can check with them for availability.

A Chief's, Commander's or Lieutenant's car would be preferred as the patrol cars get the living snot beat out of them.

So enter the crown vic

which is rear wheel drive and front heavy.

not the best combo for driving in the snow although decent snow tires and if really bad chains would make a difference.

after growing up driving rwd with large V8s in the snow, awd drive cars just make it so much easier.

and there are a lot of 'Bubarus around and parts are pretty cheap.

If the snow is really bad I will just drive the rover. Otherwise I will run studded snow tires all winter

I definitely do not want a patrol car.

imo you want 4wd/awd there. I would not want to venture much out of the metro area without it if i had any kind of timeline...

Why does regular gas matter when he's not paying for it?

Thank goodness somebody picked up on that reference. I was beginning to worry that Discoweb was culturally illiterate.
