Only 91+. It is a high-compression, turbocharged engine - it would likely kill the boost and retard the ignition if it ever heard detonation.

Yikes. Around my area, the difference between regular and premium is usually $1/gallon. I get the "if you can afford the 70k car you can afford the fuel" comments people always make, but man, its steep. In the Chicago area, we are talking ~$4 vs ~$5/gallon. i haven't put premium in anything that asks for it for years without any issues, but I don't have any turbos, I have the disco and Lexus/Toyota V6's that ask for different octane in different cars and model years. I maybe notice 1-2 mpg hit, maybe, but that is definately not worth $1 for that difference.

Interesting. My F150 2.7 Ecoboost gets about 24 mpg if I'm not in a hurry and I keep the speeds down to 55-60 mph. It falls off quickly above 65. My mixed is about 16 mpg, mostly around town. Thankfully, it runs great on regular. I only run premium in it when towing, as the manual suggests.

That 9000 mile photo I took at 62 mph was on a busy freeway merge, driving in a right-most lane that's about to end, between a whitehair in a Buick and a garbage truck.
But, speaking of the F150 gas mileage - is it measured at the pump or calculated by the ECU?

I've adjusted the AFE bias so the ECU mpg reads true to pump. Doing ~75 I'll get about 19. I don't drive faster than that, so I don't have data at sustained 80 or 90mph. Whatever it is, that's a lot of wind drag.
