Nice idea, but I'm not spending $469 plus shipping from Australia for a part that I use a couple times a year. If I towed regularly, that would be a solution worth considering.

Maybe it's because I took that plastic shield out of it. The tire sits perfectly, drags on front and rear but barely. And then I just tried to stab the reciever in since you mentioned it being a no go. But it clicked right in.

Update: I realized my factory spare wheel hoist was not working properly. I bought a new one for about $45, R & R took under 5 minutes with a cordless impact (all hardware is 10mm), and I was able to cinch the partially-deflated 265-65-16 spare into the well with the heat shield in place and then was able to install my factory hitch mount. Turns out the previous hoist wasn't able to raise the spare high enough for the hitch to engage. Success!
