hi im planning on doing my timing cover gasket as it is leaking on my 01 d2. while im there im going to replaced the timing chain itself and the water pump, just seems like a good idea if im going to be there at close to 100k. im looking at the waterpump on atlantic british and they have 2, 1 says it is original equipment and is $180, the other doesnt say that and is $110. Just wondering if any1 has purchased this non original one and if they have any comments on it good or bad, would love to save the $70 if i could but dont wannt have to do the job again in a few months cuz the part failed you know? thanks and any insight would be helpful

Don't forget to get an oil pan gasket as it has to come down to remove the oil pick in order to get the front cover off.

Don't know about the water pump mines original with 130K on it.:D

Do yourself a favor and order your stuff from Will Tillery. It'll save you a lot over what AB charges.

I used a cheap one from Atlantic British and failed before it was 2 years old. Started leaking in the winter when it was about -20 and I pulled someone out of the ditch. Put an original one back in. No problems.

It had a big heavy looking impeller that I thought looked cheap.

Traditionally I never use nothing but factory stuff on hard to get to and critical parts, which will include a water pump.

Scrimp on other easily accessible stuff. I know it's mostly peace of mind.

I just ordered one from P.T. Mine finally went out after 140k miles. For those that are wondering, the list price of a Land Rover genuine one is almost $500. If I wanted a genuine one I would just buy two used ones since they're simple to fix, but I'm going to give the aftermarket one a try.

your gonna be down there and in my opinion:

D&D double roller timing gear and chain is way cheap and way kick asser than the stock shit. if youre that far down, you might as well do the cam and lifters.... but thats another story.

ORDER 3 front cover gaskets. 1 for the job, one just in case, and the other as a back up. i had a really hard time with this and went through 3 before solving my oil pressure issue.

have fun!

My Meyle aftermarket pump went south in 9 months, but I'm pretty sure it was my fault since the clutch fan bearing was causing slop. I replaced with Eurospare and been fine for over 2 years.
I wish GMB made a rover pump. The last one I installed in a customers BMW was bad ass. High flow impeller and much improved looking than the stock pumps. Plus cheap.

Why doesn't someone make a high flow water pump for the Rovers? Maybe a high flow pump would open up that factory by pass thermostat quicker.
