On a recent trip to FL, we were upgraded to a 2018 Discovery. Less than 18k miles on it. What a piece of crap!
Interior trim was falling off and on top of massive turbo lag, it was so noisy that I actually thought it had a diesel in it when I first fired it up.
The 4.4 Yamaha V8 in my wife's...
Looking at a 2006 Supercharged with 94k miles. Private owner.
Anything obvious to look at before we go the next step of a pre-purchase inspection?
Thanks.
Trying to remove some really ugly paint from an alloy wheel. Used "Aircraft Remover" for most of it, but the last of it is almost a film thickness and a bitch to get off. Is there a particular thinner that works better on automotive paint?
Acetone, Xylene, Laquer, MEK ....?
Thanks
Probably going to sell the D2. Can't justify it sitting in the driveway most of the time. Time to let someone else enjoy it.
Wife want's to look at a RR. We're looking at around 8k as a max budget. Around here, it appears that it would get me a low to mid 2000's model.
Is there any model...
Threw the 2004 SLABS in my 99 D2 this spring. TT's front and rear, CDL. Finally got it into the mountains this last weekend. Lots of loose dirt on rocks. Steep hills.
Night and day difference between the two SLABS. The '04 only kicked in with one wheel in the air and let the TT's do their...
99D2. Never heard of this one. Coming to a stop, my brakes are starting to squeak intermittently. Starting about a week ago, when this happens, the ABS activates (no lights) and the pedal has the ABS modulating "feel". Scared the crap out of me the first time it happened. I'm stumped...
Just bought my daughter a new (used) '01 325xi that needs a clutch. While I have always done all the maint. on my 99D2, medical issues have forced me to farm out the "heavy lifting" jobs.
I have been trying to get the "book" hours for a xi clutch job. I see 3.5-4 hrs for a RWD, but not the...
Hoping someone living in VA might be able to chime in here. Have researched the VA DMV website and have come out with the requisite migrane.
I have a vehicle here in CO with a salvage title in my name. I need to ship it to my son in VA, but can find little on TRANSFERRING a salvage title...
Gonna be installing a new front propshaft in a couple weeks and the threads on a couple of the "captive" bolts at the T/C are looking a little "sketchy". I can cut them off with a wheel, but what about the replacements? Short of pulling the flange, can I just install the new ones backwards?

After Tom Woods? - Disregard
Still waiting to hear back on a ugly rumor that Tom Woods is no longer making LR "multiple" cardan joint drive shafts?
If this does turn out to be the case, what would be some recommendations in the Denver metro area to have my shaft modified? (99D2 front shaft). Or...
99D2. At work and don't have RAVE in front of me. The cardboard kick-panel under the glovebox is held on by 3 or 4(?) plastic "fasteners". The one I'm looking for is the one closest to the firewall. It has a large round flat head with a hollow post that threads onto a threaded metal stud...
Aside from their functionality, would this fit a D2 diff? Front and/or rear? Rockware says it's for a D1. At work and don't have the LR in front of me, but I seem to recall the two bolt holes. Just don't know the case differences, if any.
I have the dreaded manifold to downpipe gasket leak. Even with gobs of anti-seize, the east coast has wreaked rust havoc on the nuts/studs. Seems every time I do this job, I break off at least one stud and end up removing the entire manifold to drill it out.
I'm in much friendlier rust country...
99D2. Sitting on 4.5 to 5 in of lift. Pinion corrected arms front and rear, but because the front springs looked like a comma, the front arms rotated the pinion angle down past parallel with the driveshaft. Now I'm chasing a vibe. Rebuilt front shaft, which helped a little, but didn't...
Chasing down a vibe in my 99D2. Eliminating the obvious first. Realized that I've re-built the front drive shaft twice, but I don't think I've done the rear since I've owned it, even though it's greasable.
Wanted to re-ignite the u-joint debate. Is there such a thing as a "heavy duty"...
Need to purchase a new rear hub/abs sensor for my D2, but would like to get a front for the extra abs length. I know I'll need the o-ring, but wanted to make sure everything else was the same? A search said yes back in 2006, but wanted to re-confirm before I pulled the trigger.
- Thanks
What have I overlooked here? Got a "left rear sensor electric fail" after stretching the old sensors to the max during hard articulation. Thought I'd broken a wire. Ordered new front sensors for the extra length, installed them, re-set with my Amigo and for the first 5-10 minutes of driving...
