A comment was made to me that is it possible that turbodave's engine had been overheated by the previous owner and would this have had an effect on the liners?

Whether it is only an issue on later engines or also the older 3.9 blocks used in the Discovery 1 and the RR Classic, I don't know.

The best way to clean the mesh is by soaking it in a caustic soda (Sodium Hydroxide) solution (lye in some countries). We can buy it in the supermarket but in some countries you may need to buy it as drain cleaner.

I just checked the site which shows the fitting of the Mantec snorkel.
I didn't remove the bonnet (hood) nor did I remove the decker panel to cut the hole in it.
It's wasn't necessary.

It is unlikely that the mounting system changed. Land Rover wouldn't have spent money on new plastic moulds for the console area. The trick is to find out how to remove the bezel around the radio.

Where are you located (country?). In Australia, these are readily available and are called PolyAir springs. I understand the samethings are made in the USA by Firestone. See http://www.ride-rite.com/ProductInfo.htm
They work very well and are a relatively common fitment down here.
