1995 Disco 5 speed manual parting out

I'm part out our '95 Disco, seized transfer gearbox. I was able to free it up but I won't trust it anymore. Alpine white, beige interior. Seats are leather, good condition. Roof rack crossbar OEM. Rims are good. 3.9 Engine good. Fuel tank, fuel pump replaced (recall). Clutch replaced (new)...

    95 d1 5 speed surges 60 and above

Way back when I was only running our '95 DI 5 speed, I had this very intermitent problem. The engine would surge and there was little I could do to stop it. At idle, the rev's would bounce all over the place. I was a new to LR and took it to the dealer who convinced me that shelling out...

    coolant loss at expansion tank

Sounds like a loose liner - no coolant going out the exhaust? Maybe exhaust pressurizing the coolant system.

how do you attach 95 d1 rear view mirror?

What I did with my '95 mirror was to screw it to the molding with small black self-tapping metal screws. I predrilled 3 holes in the mirror base then with these decorative screws (threads lightly coated in adhesive), I anchored the mirror to the ceiling along with some contact cement under the...

    Possible Headgasket replacement on 2003

I agree with Chuck, valve covers leaking coolant? Oil, yes; coolant, has to be something else. Headgasket replacement is a common problem. Wait, watch and top up coolant when needed. Do the work yourself and save the $2100 for the parts and fluid you'll need. JohnMc

Unofficial poll: If you had the option: Manual trans or Auto?

I have a '95 5 speed Disco and an '03 automatic. I have more fun shifting my manual than cruising in the automatic. Last winter, I used the automatic more because the '95 was having TG problems. With winters here in Quebec, I missed having control abilities of the 5 speed manual in deep snow...

Unofficial poll: If you had the option: Manual trans or Auto?

I'm all for 5 speed manual. My '95 has over 400,000kms and still shifts smooooth and easy. During winter, I'll take this over my automatic anytime. Only had to replace clutch once since new. Johnmc

    Fuel temp sensor

I always thought the fuel temp sensor was only needed when the engine reached its normal operating temp. So it is used with cold starts? If you were to see a slow gradual decline in fuel pressure is it possible that this could be the fuel temp sensor? Thanks, JohnMc

    Disco 1 5 speed questions

Hi Tom, when I had it done, the mechanic said he would do a special and swap in a clutch from a Series III. He never said how he'd do it but only the 'why' - better clutch. He assured me it was compatible and I did not want to look a gift horse in the mouth. Even took longer as it was...

    Disco 1 5 speed questions

My '95 Disco 5spd has over 250k and gets 12-14 mpg city, 17 mpg highway. Does not burn oil, tranny shifts smooth and elegant, no noise during shifting or at any speed/gear. Won't use anything other than 91 octane or higher. Replaced the clutch with one from a series III - I was told it was...

    96 D1 Wet Floorboards

I had cracks in the floor welds that allowed water to enter. Cracks developed just behind the mudflaps. Also had rust holes along side the transmission/exhaust tunnel. I had to remove the carpet to find all the cracks and holes.

    Truck died in water anythoughts?

Could it be the spark amplifier module? Some of them may be off the distributor and lower down within the engine compartment.

    Fuel tank recall experience

The fuel tank recall was due to plastic fuel tanks developing cracks and leaks. Cracks were found on the plastic welds joints, filler pipe, fuel pump ring and fuel venting hose (to name a few areas). The recall began in June of 2004 and I did not see an expiration date in the form letter we...

    Fuel tank recall experience

I had the fuel tank recall performed on my Disco a couple of years ago. The dealer informed me that older Disco's could also have the fuel pump and fuel lines replaced due to rusting and the high risk of leaks AFTER the swap. Most recalls included the fuel pump as it usually was safer to...

Disco l motor options...V8's, diesels, help!

My mechanic advised me to keep the 3.9 - its a real workhorse and does not have the problems that newer engines have. Case in point, sticking exhaust valves are not really an issue with 3.9 engines. JohnMc

    A little brake help please...

Ever consider salvaged parts? I purchased a rotor from a salvage yard as a replacement for about $85 delivered. Installed the caliper and bled the entire system on a Saturday afternoon. Caliper arrived well packaged and obviously tested. Has been working well ever since (two years now)...
