97 D90 with the 4.0L - 127K miles
she is still new to me as I have not been able to much over the winter. It is a texas car that sat for a long time, had some field mice living under the hood and PO did get it fixed and running but there where still wires that needed to be repaired. I mention this because I am 90% sure I got them all, but that may factor into my issues.
Has the following OBD codes -
Cat bank 1 sensor 1 - over the range
P1316 = Misfire excessive emissions fault
P0300 = misfire on multiple cylinder
I did do a compression test (see below - wet and dry) and cylinder 7 was low. Which would tie into the Bank 1 - Sensor 1 issue - no?
What I have noticed is that I am unable to get it to idle at anything under 2000 RPM with my foot on the gas. It will rev up to 2000 and as I try and hold it there it will drop back down and then I apply a little more gas it will jump back up to 2500 RPM and I can hold that. Except when I do - it starts blowing out blue smoke - definitely oil even when hot.
My theory (and I am just a shadetree mechanic) is to do the following -
1. New O2 sensors
2. check the PCV is not plugged with mouse hair
3. Replace MAF (?)
4. Replace Throttle position sensor TPS (?)
5. Remove and clean the air plenum - hard to believe a mouse could have gotten into that but who knows.
What might I be missing or what have I mentioned that wouldn't be a likely issue? Any recommendations or help is always appreciated.
Thanks.
