After about 3 hours on old threads i cant find a thread that illustrates the exact problem i am having, so here goes. its a 2001 d2 -> after the disco sits for a while i start it up and put it in reverse, there is a low clunk around the rear shaft, but no hesitation in movement, afterwards i put it into drive and accelerate to around 1500 rpms, when a distinct and louder clunk is heard. it only does this once, does not do this on the road, no vibrations. this axle has less than 3000 miles on it. the clunck is best described as something metal comming unseated and then slipping back into place. both front and rear shafts have about 1/8 inch of play (rotation) to them, however the rear shaft seems to be looser than the front. havnt had time to pull my ujoint, which i pray it is, rather than something bound up in the diff. if youve had any experience w/ the same problem please share.
