Default Anyone else get spammed by Red Rhino?

Just curious. I received an unsolicited email from Red Rhino at work today. Next thing I know, I'll be getting Viagra from Mexico or Sally and her sisters want me emails.

ditto, and ditto. hell, had made the decision not to do business with them long before this email, but that really clinched it.

I got it as did my moderator on my site. Funny thing was he sent it to an oddball email account that would not have signed up for a mailer so it threw SPAM flags right away.

Yep,

Between some king in Nigeria wanting my bank account and Suzie wanting me and ten other guys to make her ....complete...I get some crazy stuff on Yahoo. I must say though, Yahoo's bulk / spam system works pretty darn good.

I got it too.
Yahoo does have a decent bulk shunt.
I put them in my rover parts file in my favorites. I don't have a problem having a look at them.

probably, but no idea where they would get it? only Rover place i have my email with is AB, Dweb and D90. And those last two aren't selling I know.

had a shady transaction with Jason awhile ago with some used parts. it all worked out in the end, but left a bitter taste in my mouth. not to mention the flame wars he had on here back about a year ago when he was trying to sell his old RRC. plus, if you look, he is/was actually selling those Northwest Parts racks for a higher markup then Northwest Parts sells them. Just doesn't seem right. Course, all my own opinions so make your own with your own experiences.

James,

I really do not think that Axel, Ho, and Kyle would sell my email out to anyone. period. I have a feeling that some type of "email farming" has taken place on D90 and here at DWEB. Why do I say this? Because my profile email is either yahoo or now gmail.

Ya, they could have just clicked on everyones profile and added the emails to some group list that they got going.. It would take a while to do but, it's not hard to do.. I'm sure that there is a software out there that will do it for them as well.

I agree with Utah though about the folks that make money off of your email address.. Once your email gets on that list it's pretty safe to assume that your spam will never end and some dick head out there is making money off your inconvience.

Paul,

I did not imply that the fellas sold you out. I'm implying that, because only a select few of you have been spammed, that maybe a vendor you have all used sold your info. Crutchfield? 4x4Connection? who knows... Now, if you would like to say that the only place you've ever used this email address in association with Rovers and wheeling is on this board, then yeah, I say you've been 'farmed'. Either way, you put an email address on a Rover site so you wouldn't get emails related to Rovers?!?

Damn, you need to switch to decaff...calm down. Stress and Stogies can kill.

i think the whole point though is, if they are going to do this, they aren't going to be well received and will not be getting much business. this spam was better than most, as at least it is related to something I'm interested in. but not the best way to go about drumming up business.

This is a bit differant than just someone spamming you for viagra. Jason like all other Rover vendors are inside a pretty small community when compaired to say the Jeep community. Any vendor that actually pays attention to the community they are looking to serve would know, that this is not appriciated generally by the community. Over on my site, just last week a vendor did the same thing, manually farmed the addresses from the bio section and then mass mailed out and everytime it happens it usally raises a heated round of people voicing their displeasure over it, and once again, they did. So common sense would dictate that this wont go over well. To make matters worse is that if he did buy a list of emails specificly targeting the Rover community members, it shows that he is even more out of touch with the community and will never be an effective Vendor. He obviously does not follow along with current topics outside his own classified listings because if he did, he would have seen how "well recieved" that last Vendors mass mailing went for them and maybe would have thought twice before sending it.

That's correct. We have never sold or given away emails or other contact info listed on Dweb, and we never will.

You will never see unsolicited emails initiated from Dweb, either. The only automated emails you will ever see when dealing with us, are Paypal confirmations when you use that to order or donate, and UPS shipping confirmations, when UPS is used to ship your order out.

Cool

Whats an Email address worth anyway ? Thats just some sad shit there... Just so you have some back ground info I will give you this. Jason (H2Eater) was on this BBS before and was an ass and ended up banned. He then cried and pleaded in Email to let him back on (Which we ignored). He then went to d-90.com running his mouth about Dweb and has since signed up here and had his IP banned twice and his posts deleted. To be honest , I dont like to do it because I am a vendor as well and it makes ME look bad every time I have to get rid of him. But he just smells like bad news. There have been many that have come and gone over the years and you get to know how certain ones stink up the place. This spamming is just one example..........

Yeah I just kicked him off a list I moderate as well, after getting a spam from him. So Jason Michaels == H2eater. Hmm, yeah I remember that. Makes sense. I assumed he'd picked up my email address off that list but then was pointed to this thread.

Makes me wish I'd gotten around to using specific email addresses for everything I sign up for. I get way over 100 spams a day but this one just really pissed me off. I sincerely hope this quickly becomes a case study on how spamming ruins a business. What a stupid, foolish, short-sighted idea. Let's see, how can I piss off an alienate all of of the potential buyers in my relatively small community? Duh.

- Andrew.
