I think this depends on the tire and load rating. Check the sidewall for max pressure.
Run high if you have a large load and lower for no load. Some people run higher pressure in the rear.
I have 235/85, these are a load range E tire so max pressure is really high like around 80PSI. I run pretty darned high pressure to get as many miles out of them as possible. Like around 55 PSI front and rear.
Most commonly you will see people running 32-40 front and 40-45 rear, but you likely will not get as long of a wear at this lower pressure, but I did this too for years with no real issue, just a softer ride.
Offroad is different. I tend to run about 20 PSI, sometimes much lower if the risks of blowing a bead are not too high.
