Its starting to get hot again, and I was wondering what people thought about Redline's water wetter. Is it more like a slick 50 product, or does it really perform. Even if it doesn't perform as well as they state, is there anything negative about putting it in anyways (i.e. buildup or other type of damage). With the market flooded with all these additives, its tough to tell whats legit and what's not - even when there's a brand name logo on it.

I posted this when another guy had an overheating problem...

"I had an old Escort in high school that would overheat when the sun came up. Damn POS would just start puking up crap all over the place the moment I turned the key it seemed. Tried a product called Water Wetter and it solved the problem for good...at least until the radiator finally bit the dust. But I actually hit a vulture to toast the radiator, so that's another story.

Do up a Google on "Water Wetter" and you'll see a boatload of car nut sites talking about it's strengths. "Grassroots Motorsports" did a story a few years ago on additives that really work and Redline Water Wetter was on the list. (I think it was a G.M. article)"

Water Wetter is for real. I am very pessimistic about miracle additive crap, but Water Wetter and Marvel Mystery Oil are two of the best products I have ever used.

one more thing...Grassroots Motorsports magazine is an excelent source for info on auto related products. I feel the same way whenever I hear people talk about Royal Purple and Seafoam etc...all sounds like VOODOO!

I also search the other brand specific sites like the Vintage Triumph Registry (www.vtr.org) or AROCA (http://www.alfaclub.org.au/) for info. I find that club sites where the members mostly have OLD cars and big active membership rosters, frequently maintain some in depth how-to stories that include product recomendations and tips for completing big repairs/rebuilds. I've found that alot of the stuff I read through both of these sites can be adapted to some of the things we LR owners come across with our trucks.

I actually found these sites while looking for a good quality info source for Vintage VW maintenance (I have a '71 Bug convertible). Unfortunately, most VW club sites still think that Bondo and Brazilian replacement parts are the right way to do things! ugh!

use it

I use Watter Wetter on my Datsun 240Z race car and I can attest to at least a 15-20 degree temperature drop with usage. no ill effects so far (after 4 yrs).

used in my DII 2000

I used it and it didn't do any harm but the temp guage never went lower than before. I don't think the temp gauages in DII are very sensitive though. In winter and summer it stays at the 1/2 mark. My 2 cents

I will probably add more though.
