Well after a few weeks of riding on the RTE coils they are just too stiff. Think I’m going back with new OEM coils and 2” spacers. Anyone else run that combo and like it?

You havnt even broken them in yet! If you want a softer ride go with ome HD springs. The coils are much smaller and you get a 2" lift. The RTE ones will hold up much better over time but the OME ones are good quality just not as robust. Stay away from the TF junk. BTW break in on a spring takes a long time and a good bit of flexing the suspension.

Maybe so but I don't think it will ever be what I wanted. I think new original stock springs make the most sense. They are slightly longer than the RTE 2" springs so with the 2" spacers I want have to worry about them dislocating as the RTE ones are very close to doing so. The coil diameter is smaller and there are fewer coils so the difference in fully compressed compared to the RTE springs calculates out to almost exactly 2". In theory it will flex better because the RTE springs are too stiff to fully compress at least right now.

Wheels and tires arrived. 265/70R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT. Not sure if the tires helped or maybe the springs have relaxed a bit but the ride seems a bit better now. I will hold off on the spring change until I get it off road more.

It’s hard to tell by the pictures but after relaxing the bushings I gained about 2” of travel. The car lift is now at 23.5” with the front sway disconnected and the stock rear. Both the front and rear tire now leave the ground at the same time where as before it picked the front tire up first. I think the shocks have a bit more up travel left but the springs are too stiff to get full travel.
I have 3" RTE springs on my D1 They are old school RTE, about 20 years old and super flexy. I got some Fox 2.0's from lucky 8 that were meant for a 3" lift and after 2 months the passenger front Fox shock pulled apart from the lower mount. When i went to warranty them with Lucky8 they just said that the RTE springs flex more than others and that it will happen. Not saying this will happen to you, but sometimes all the flex isn't that great lol. I still have 3 fox 2.0's sitting in my garage so if you do break one i got a spare for you. Other than that the ride on the 2.0 was the best my D1 has every been. I miss them so much. Enjoy your setup! i'm digging it

I’ve ordered some new stock springs and spacers. The 2” RTE springs are just way too stiff. I like the shocks and they are re-buildable so we shall see. I’ll report back my results once I get them installed this weekend.

Ya, unfortunately if it pulls the lower mount off like mine did, the shock body has to be replaced. I sent pictures to fox and it was the same price to rebuild as it was to buy a new one. Again, doubt this will happen to you. Especially since you have stock springs now, but just figured i'd share my experience. I love my RTE springs and now i run Terrafirma +5 extreme long travel shocks as well as the Terrafirma rear shock mount relocation plates. Been flexing for a couple years now with no issues PXL_20221025_193421021.jpg

Ahh I see what you mean now. I should get a little more flex out of the stock springs vs the RTE 2". Even if it's the same it will be a happy tradeoff for a better ride quality.
