I have just experienced what people all accross the country must face every damn day. I took a customers car up to a Land Rover dealership to get an O2 sensor put in it. They have a 150K warranty extension on some vins. I looked at the car mid week and ordered a part for a park brake issue. At that time I saw the code for the o2 sensor and checked the warranty coverage. I agreed to take the vehicle to the dealership and get that sensor taken care of.
Now heres where it gets fun. I had checked this code 2 times in the prev. week. It was always the code requsting the light. I didnt clear it but it became current again on every cold start. So the mechanic gets the car, clears the codes and stored another fault that was never in the vehicle and has not restored since I got the vehicle back. The O2 sensor heater fault is now requesting a light.
I was being asked to pay $200 to diagnose the check engine light because an o2 sensor heater fault was not requesting the light on a fully warmed up engine. Go figure?
